Seen on Audio!

August 18th, 2008 by admin

The past couple of weeks I’ve been working on a new art piece that would be exhibited this Thursday, August 21st at the 55 DSL store for an exhibit called “SEEN on AUDIO.” The show is put together by the 55 DSL Store and curated by The Sound of Art.  The participating artist where given the task of creating a piece of art work with found objecst and working with the theme Audio Digital, which happens to be 55 DSL fall theme.  I came up with the idea of using my old cassette tapes as the medium for my art.  Using my old tapes was a big deal for me cause these tapes mean the world to me.  It’s the soundtrack to my adolescents. I remember buying each of these albums and scanning every inch of the album packing thoroughly.  From the art work, to the production credits, to the sampling credits, to even the thank you the artist gave out.  Besides my Gaza Strip piece this has to be my 2nd favorite.  Below is the invite to the event along with some snap shots I took while I was creating the piece.  To see how it turned out, come thru the event on thursday (don’t for get to RSVP) or you can wait till after the event.

My 1st Fixed Gear!

August 18th, 2008 by admin

Good looking out to my boy Ed from Chickens and Robots for giving his fellow 7/20 brother his bike frame. I’ve been reading up on fixed gear bikes and it has peeked my interested in getting my hands on one of them. So, I got rid of my mountain bike and traded it in for a fixed gear aka Track bike. What is a fixed gear bike? Well according to Wikipedia A fixed-gear bicycle or fixed wheel bicycle, is a bicycle without the ability to coast. The sprocket is screwed directly on to the hub and there is no freewheel mechanism. A reverse-thread lockring is usually fitted to prevent the sprocket from unscrewing.[1] Whenever the rear wheel is turning, the pedals turn in the same direction.[2] By resisting the rotation of the pedals, a rider can slow the bike to a stop, without the aid of a brake.[1] A fixed gear bicycle can even be ridden in reverse.

Since, I’m new at this fixed gear thing, I got myself a back break, until I master breaking on this thing. I got a chance to ride it this past weekend and love it. The bike feels very light and sleek.  Check it out. I was going for the all black look but due to some out of stock parts, I settled for some chrome accents. It still looks fly though.

When I was a young’n, around the single digit age.  There was one lady that I had my eyes on and that lady was the one and only Iris Chacon.  The original Puerto Rican bombshell.  The J-Lo before there was any J-LO. I was mesmerized when I would see her strut her stuff and shake her voluptuous body and  bodacious derriere on the t.v. set.  I will be glued to the t.v. admiring her curves and if Iris wasn’t around, her sister Lourdes Chacon would cover.  Peep the video!

This is dope…

August 15th, 2008 by admin

Peace everyone, I know I’ve been a little inactive lately on the blog.  My bad, I’ve just been busy and tired but I’m not complaining.I do think a vacation is in order though.  Any hoot,  I was doing my morning ritual, checking out some blogs before I dive in to my work and I came across Dan Witz street art on Wooster Collective.  This guy’s work is amazing.  I can’t imagine all the people that trip when they see one of these piece while walking down the street.  Very Dope!

GLOW IN THE DARK!!!

August 6th, 2008 by admin

Last night I had the pleasure to attend Kanye’s “Glow in the Dark” tour at Madison Square Garden.  There’s been a slew of great concerts that I have unfortanetly missed, like this passed sundays “Rock the Bells” tour. So when the Glow in the Dark tour was brought back to MSG, I made sure I got myself a ticket.  I was especially happy that Rhinana wasn’t on the bill.  The show was pretty dope.  Consequence opened up the show to a lite crowd (people where still coming in) but he still did his thing.  After that, my least favorite of the bunch performed Mr. Damn I wish I was an alternative rocker, Lupe Fiasco.  I know it may sound like I’m hating but I’m not a fan of Lupe.  To me, he’s extremely overrated and his music and lyrics are not good and I have both his albums but that’s my opinion.  After that, N*E*R*D came on and ripped it.  They blessed the crowd with there hits from there current album “Seeing Sound” (which is currently on repeat in my iPod) to “In Search of…” album and “Fly or Die.”  Following them was the Kanye with a spectacular set. I appreciate Kanye as an artist very much.  As winey as and a Diva-ish,as he is, Kanye’s all about talking things to the next level and I think he accomplished that with his show.  It felt like he was performing live from Mars.  Check out the video clips below taken with my favorite new Gadget the Flip Mino.  Sorry Lupe fans but I left his set out.

What yall know about Divine Styler?  The adopted Native Tonguer (I know, Tonguer is not a word) from the West Coast.  This was one of those videos that was a big influence for my friends and I, from the Fashion to the dances.  This was pretty much Divine Styler’s one hit. The music that followed was so really out there, on some out of space shit.  Peep the video!

B*Day Weekend Pt 3 (The actual Birthday)

July 23rd, 2008 by admin

I’m not one to do the whole Birthday celebration poppin’ bottles go to the club thing.  My ideal birthday is to be in another country, chilling taking in the sun and drinking a nice cold one. , Unfortanelty I didn’t get to go away this year, thanks to crappy value of the dollar, so I kept it local.  Fortunately, there were several good events going on around my birthday, including Santogold at summerstage.  The day that I saw the line-up for summerstage and read Santogold was performing on my bday it went on my list of things to do.  The weather was hot and muggy  but my ass was on line early to make sure I get in.  I had a feeling all the hipsters and there mother would be at that show and of course I was right.  The line was crazy.  But I was good, I was close to the front.  Overall, the day was awesome, I was chilling with some cool ass artist friends like Toofly (thanks kid for taking some of the pics), Ed from Chickensandrobots (It was his bday too) Vee Bravo from Estillo (Check out his flick at the NY Latino Film Festival this Thursday) and friends of friends.  We was good up the bleachers,  You look into the crowd and it looked like a sea of people. It’s amazing how many people just crave good music.  This girl gets no radio play and she had summerstage filled to capacity.   Afterwards we headed to Mr. Q’s (aka BBQ’S) for some grub and drinks ending the night on a good note.  Good music, good people and good food not a bad way to celebrate my birthday.  But don’t get it twisted, my ass would not be here next year.  I’m thinking Greece!  PEACE!!!!

B*Day Weekend Part 2

July 23rd, 2008 by admin

So Saturday, the 2nd part of the Peralta B*Day weekend took place at World, where the Sound of Art was having it’s “World Premiere” art exhibit.  Not only was I attending but I was showing 3 new pieces of art pieces as well.  There was also new works from the rest of the SOA gang like, Toofly, Mike Stone, Craig Anthony Miller, One9 and much more. The event went really well, beside the hot and humid weather we had a great turn out.  In addition to the amazing eye candy  from the art work, there was a  intimate acoustic performance by a very talented singer/songwriter named Tuac (Pronounced Tuck.)  Honestly, he did his thing.  It didn’t feel like one of those situations where you’re at an event and some boring performance came on.  Anyway, enough talk, peep the pics below.
